Singing is good for you says Dr. Michael Mosley Daily Mail January1, 2022
We are a traditional male voice choir which is keen to reach new audiences to perform in new venues, and to attract new members into the choir.
The Hull Male Voice Choir was formed over 100 years ago. In that time, it has sung both locally, nationally and internationally and in the process has raised thousands of pounds for charities. It has a library of several hundred songs that have been performed over the years and covers every genre of music from traditional Welsh hymns to negro spirituals, from sea shanties to songs from the shows from the Beatles to Simon and Garfunkel. It is safe to say that we have songs to cover every musical taste.
Unfortunately, like many organisations, as we have reconvened after an absence of almost two years the dreaded Covid has taken a toll on our membership. As a consequence, we are now seeking new members. We are looking for men who enjoy singing. you do not need to be able to read music, but you must be able to attend rehearsals for couple of hours on a Wednesday evening. We currently practice at Sight Support on Beverley Road. We also perform concerts through the year, singing a whole range of songs from our collection.
I know that many of us are wondering what to do with our time as we come out of lockdown, and singing is a good therapy for recovering from ‘the blues’. So, if you think that you would enjoy being part of our choir then please feel free to come along and give us a try on a Wednesday evening at 7:30pm.
Our rehearsals are always lighthearted and our members come from a whole range of backgrounds so you wouldn’t feel out of place and would be made very welcome, plus, for new members, there is no subscription fee for the first term. Rehearsals for 2022 commence on Wednesday 12th January at 7:30pm, you will be made very welcome
